Love, Simon (2018) A young coming-of-age tale about a teenage boy, Simon Spier, goes through a different kind of Romeo and Juliet story.  Simon Spier keeps a huge secret from his family, his friends, and all of his classmates: he's gay. When that secret is threatened, Simon must face everyone and come to terms with his identity.  Simon has a love connection with a boy, Blue, by email, but the only problem is that Simon has no idea who he's talking to. Simon must discover who that boy is--who Blue is. Along the way, he tries to find himself as well.   I watched 'Love, Simon' during the summer holiday. I loved this film, although I would change some aspects of the film. I recommend it strongly!

Group Task 1

Montage Editing  The montage is of a student studying for an exam and making notes from a textbook. However, the student gets distracted.. The montage shows an hour in a 1 minute clip. The editing was done on premier pro, which took a while to understand and decipher. Although, I was able to watch tutorials on YouTube.com and get guidance to be able to ensure professionalism.

Directing Styles The directing style I'm wanting to adapt is the Terrence Malick, as his work comes with a heavy voiceover or narration, sometimes by multiple characters. Using his style, I could have a voiceover of Lisa and then Matt to show the development in their relationship as the short film progresses. As well as this, I've taken Malick's theme of man's struggle with nature, and adapted it to fit my narrative, which is man vs. relationships. Continually, I am very inspired by the Kuleshov effect, by Alfred Hitchcock. This is because this directing style is relatively simple and extremely effective. For example, Lisa will look at Matt and her emotions could be shown by an extreme close up shot. Alternatively, the Kuleshov effect could be used with Lisa's phone, or the sugar sachet - the purpose of this would be to demonstrate the high tension and emotion in the scene (much like the slow zoom in Arrival.)
